SAN GABRIEL RIVER/EAST & WEST FORKS

If you are looking for a good place to go and catch a couple of rainbow trout, look no farther than the San Gabriel River East and West Forks. This spot is located just above the city of azusa, and gets you you just far enough out of the city, that you can really feel like you have gotten away from it all. The best thing about it is that you will not even have to leave LA County. I like the West Fork best it is a paved road that goes back about 8 miles up to Cogswell Dam. The DFG stocks from the entrance up to the second bridge, and from there it is catch and release. I have heard stories of guys having a 50 fish day up here. You probably wont catch anything over 10 inches but it is fun. The east fork is also a good place to fish. You can drive along the road, and fish where you see them. If you want to get adventurous you can hike back to the bridge to nowhere and there are a few pools holding large numbers of fish. here are a couple of pictures I have taken well up there.

I love fishing West fork. MY favorite spot is the pool just above the second bridge. Ive caught 1-5 fish every time I go from that spot. Good Scenery too, Once you get back there alittle.

I do not think DFG will stock for another year. Hopefully, they will begin stocking native fish after they resume.

Your blog is such a great source of info. Thanks! I noticed that there are also some potential sites to fish in the San Bernardino area. Are Lyttle Creek, Santa Ana River, Deep Creek, or Bear Creek good places to go flyfishing?

Yeah those places up in San Bernardino are great places to fish. The access is alittle rough at some of the places. My favorite is Bear Creek. I'll be adding some of these spots to my locations section on the main blog page so keep an eye out!
